Top ten zombie games from the future

future_zombies.jpgYou know how yesterday we presented the ten best zombie games of all time. Well, we kind of lied. "All time" still has quite a bit of time left on the clock. So here are ten candidates for best zombie game of all time that aren't out yet. As they shuffle slowly and inexorably towards their release dates, we'll be waiting. Oh, yes, we will be waiting.

Read the top ten upcoming zombie games after the jump (arranged alphabetically because, girls, you're all pretty).

Burn, Zombie, Burn!
There's no reason zombie games can't be cutesy and a little casual, especially when they're named something as awesome as Burn, Zombie, Burn!

Call of Duty 5
In case fighting the Japanese in the Pacific theater of World War II isn't enough, Call of Duty 5 provides a mode in which players band together to fend off hordes of Nazi zombies. Does it make sense? Who cares!

Grand Theft Auto 4
There's no word whether Grand Theft Auto will actually do this, but if there's one thing Barack Obama has taught me during this Presidential campaign, it's that I believe in hope. So someone with an open-world game, whether it's Grand Theft Auto, Saints Row, True Crime, or Just Cause - I don't care which one of you it is - is sooner or later going to offer some sort of downloadable content that introduces into its open-world gameplay a zombie apocalypse.

Halo Wars
This console RTS will include three factions: the humans, the Covenant aliens, and the zombies. Well, technically, they're the Flood, but everyone knows the Flood are just space zombies. The last time we saw zombies in an RTS was Universe at War, which had alien tripod walkers that could spray buildings with toxic alien goo, turning the inhabitants into an army of zombies. Cool, huh? Too bad it wasn't in a better game. But with any luck, Halo Wars will let the Flood do similarly clever zombie tricks.

Left 4 Dead
I'm not sure if it's Valve's reputation, the subject matter, the demos I've seen, or the $10 million advertising budget, but I've got it in my head that this will be the Second Coming of zombie games (Dead Rising being the First, of course).

Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayer
If there's one thing cooler than killing zombies, it's a hot chick in a bikini, feather boa, and cowboy hat, killing zombies with her katana. If you don't believe me, watch this trailer. Then come back here and apologize for not believing me. Then buy this game when it comes out, even though it will probably be terrible.

Resident Evil 5
Here's where you argue whether the walking, talking, running, chainsaw wielding, fully functional cultists in Resident Evils 4 and 5 are or are not zombies. The difference this time is that argument is in Africa instead of Spain, and it's not clear whether the President's daughter is involved. Whatever. Just be sure to aim for the head.

Timesplitters 4
The earlier Timesplitters had a real affection for zombies. There were even modes that took into account the fact that you can't kill a zombie unless you hit it with a headshot, which is a serious lapse of realism in many zombie games. The last few Timesplitter games were also great for loading up multiplayer matches with lots of zombie bots. So assuming the developers at Free Radical once again do justice to the fine art of zombie killing, we're willing to pretend Haze never happened.

Zombies!!!
One of the distinguishing features of zombies is that they're slow. Sometimes they're so slow they're actually turn-based, as they will be in the adaptation of this boardgame.

I kinda want to check out Onechanbara when it comes out. Seems like a quick fun fix, like EDF was.

I wonder if I should check out the 360 or wii version. Or both.
