McCain opposed to ingame advertising?

McCain_thumbs.jpgGamespot's UK site went through Barack Obama's filing with the Federal Election Commission and determined that the campaign paid $44,000 to Massive, the company responsible for streaming advertising directly into games, including Obama's ads promoting early voting. According to Gamespot, Massive says they contacted the McCain campaign to see if they were interested in ingame ads. The campaign surreptitiously checked its wallet and the declined.

I wonder whether McCain regrets this as much as he must regret abandoning Michigan, selecting Sarah Palin, or hugging George W. Bush. However, if he did this on principle because he's against the intrusiveness of ingame advertising, I may have to reconsider my vote this Tuesday.

It's why I subscribe to this website during the presidential election: www.getdrunkandvote4mccain.com.

I am no supporter of Obama, but I thought it was rather smart of them to pay for advertising in that racing game you mentioned a few weeks ago. Whether this advertising in games provides actual votes remains to be seen. As much as I despise the over-saturation of commercials in everything to standing in line at the supermarket, it's a healthy sign that businesses are still doing well enough to pay for commercials.

I think this is only indicative the fact that the Obama campaign has severely outspent the McCain campaign.

"I think this is only indicative the fact that the Obama campaign has severely outspent the McCain campaign."

Yeah and after Obama broke his promise to partake of public financing, unlike McCain.

Yawn. Seriously ISO, is that the freshest talking point you could find? Nothing about Socialism? Not even a tiny bit about terrorists or Muslims? Boy are you guys off your game. Sad.

Great post, Tom. At first I thought your last line was weird, then I started to think about the possibility of a McCain stump speech that focused only on this topic. With real passion about advertising in games and the crowd in a lather. Chanting and screaming epithets. “Luddite!” “Mac User!” That would be so cool. I’d like to see a mockup of that speech by the guys who did that break dancing video. Only awesome and boring at the same time…you don’t often get that.

Then, at the next campaign event, Sarah Palin could introduce “Tom the Gamer”! You could get up and talk about how an Obama administration would hurt you as a gamer. After that you could answer questions about Israel.

The only thing gamers need is a “Drill, Baby, Drill” kind of slogan. “Patch, Baby, Patch” doesn’t really cut it. So, I move that we start working on that soon. I’m sure everybody is too busy with Fallout 3 to bother with this now, so we’ll have to be content with 2012.

For you however, Tom the Gamer…demagoguery awaits! Woo-Hoo!

Dingus....The slogan would probably be something like "Kill, Baby, Kill".

Sheesh. You're not even trying. You're fired.

Moving on.
