When they weren't talking about Joe "The Plumber" Wurzelbacher, one of the Presidential candidates mentioned videogames in last night's debate. Barack Obama said the following during his closing statement:But there's one last ingredient [to creating a better education system] that I just want to mention, and that's parents. We can't do it just in the schools. Parents are going to have to show more responsibility. They've got to turn off the TV set, put away the video games, and, finally, start instilling that thirst for knowledge that our students need.
But just remember, parents, that sometimes it's a clan match and your child would like some em-effin' chocolate milk.

I didn't want to hear him say that but understand the sentiment, that American children are in bad shape on many fronts. It looked like he was struggling a little to respond and the old byline fell out of his talking hole. McCain did worse when he said that bad teachers should be fired (ok) but that certificates should not be required to have [teaching] certificates. There will be a LOT more bad teachers fired. More kids will go to ya ol video game because they will drop out of school. Fun night at the debates!

It wasn't until MUDs that I learned to really type. It wasn't until Lemonade Stand that I really cared about math. It wasn't until Oregon Trail that I cared about history.

Personally, it wasn't until Burnout that I learned to drive, and it wasn't until GTA that I learned how to treat a lady. And it wasn't until Doom that I cared enough to chainsaw demon spawn and close the gates of hell.
