A blog called Patent Arcade that tracks videogame related legal issues has dug up details on a spat between THQ and Activision. THQ contends that Activision is muscling in on its copyright by imitating the box cover of its Baja racing game.
I'm no lawyer, but I once played Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. So my expert opinion is, holy cow, that is awfully egregious. To offer a little gratis hearsay to the juris prudence, I was confused when I saw the Activision game (on the right) was coming out this week. I was pretty sure it had already come out, but I was thinking of the THQ game (on the left). It would be even more confusing if I was at the store looking at the shelves. I'd totally do a double take. And then I'd get a good racing game instead, like Midnight Club: Los Angeles.
