What would famous-ish people do with Spore?

Spore_Freedom_One.jpgHave you heard of this Spore thing? It's apparently a game where you make a creature and then post a little movie of it on YouTube. I think it might do some other stuff, too, but no one can really be sure until it comes out this weekend.

In their effort to promote Spore to non-gamers who are even more confused than gamers about what Spore is, Electronic Arts has assembled a collection of creatures they've persuaded variously famous people to make. They've posted it online and called it SporeVote. The assembled folks are referred to as "creative celebrities", although many of them hardly seem eligible for one of those two words, must less both of them.

The idea is that people will go, 'Hey, I want to see what kind of creature David Lynch would make!' and then they'll visit the sight, browse through some of the creatures, vote on them, and then go buy Spore. Currently in the lead is video blogger Phillip DeFranco's dragony kinda thing with impala horns.

(By the way, David Lynch named his creature Freedom One. Like many things David Lynch, I have no idea what's going on there. But you can see his creation above, roasting marshmallows during the game's tribal stage. It looks pretty conventional until you get to the civilization stage, at which point the creature turns into Balthazar Getty.)

That's the best Balthazar Getty joke I've ever read.

This is amazing. I would never expect to see Ryan from The O.C., Joey Fatone of N'Sync, and David Lynch all on the same page.

The "person" is not roasting marshmallows, look again.

Actually, Freedom One is indeed roasting marshmallows. I watched him do it when I took the screenshot. But out of curiosity, what do you think he's doing?
