Siren episode 6: don't have gun, won't travel, too freaked out

Siren_game_diary_06.jpgOne of the problems with the episodic structure is the way each character has to "reset" between episodes. For instance, I had a character whose first task during the level is to find a weapon. The problem is that he just had a .38 caliber handgun at the end of his last episode. Dude, what the hell? Did you misplace it? Did it wear out? Is it in another pair of pants? Because of all the things for you to lose…

But you know what? I don't care anymore. As of the end of episode 6, Siren has turned out to be entirely worthwhile.

As usual, spoiler discussion is after the jump. But if you have any interest in playing Siren based on what you've read so far, I'd recommend not reading the spoiler bits any more until you've actually played the corresponding episode. Because if you haven't played it, what you read after this jump will ruin one of the freakiest things you'll ever see in a horror game.

Read the spoilers after the jump.

So it seems that Seigo is indeed dead and now he's taken to sniping at Miyako. Why didn't he kill her before? And why is he so dead set (ha ha, get it?) on killing her now?

What's up with Amana letting her hair down and being able to cast fireball, which is a level-three spell? That would have come in handy earlier. And is Howard waking up at the side of the stream again an indication that all his post-cop episodes were a dream?

As soon as the Bella segment started, I thought two things: 1) Wait, didn't we see her die by a falling log at the end of an earlier episode? And 2) wow, it sure is nice to see the place look so lovely after so many episodes of dark grainy graphics. And both things are explained at the shocker twist when she reaches the church. I love it when a videogame can freak me out like that. Wherever Siren goes from here, Bella tapping at the window will make it all worthwhile.

By the way, getting to the church, it seemed awfully easy to sneak past the shibito. So I went back in as Bella and, sure enough, the other shibito don't attack her! Not only that, but I found shibito Sol running around with his camera. And the strange two-torsoed female monster who looms above Bella at the church window is out here as well. Who the heck is she?
