Sales data, like math, is hard. So bully for the new Top Global Markets Report, which will come along and simply announce the winners of the world*. This new report assembles figures from sales data in various countries and lists the games that have sold the most copies globally. Keep in mind this has nothing to do with factors like Wii Fitness making more money because you have to buy the stupid balance board. As near as I can tell, this is strictly retail data based on sell-through, not copies shipped or gross income.
And the winners are: Nintendo!
Yeah, Grand Theft Auto IV has sold the most copies world-wide (and it hasn't even come out yet in Japan), but Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart, and Wii Fit occupy the next three places. Bringing up the rear is Guitar Hero III.
It's Nintendo's world. We just play in it. And we play Nintendo's games.
