Videogame your way to better parenting skills

great_parenting.jpgIn Parenting magazine's list of six ways to be a great parent, the first way is to play videogames. Yes! Fist pump! I think we can all get behind this one. The author of the article talks to a Cincinnati mom who explains she can relate to different age groups in different ways depending on the games they're playing.

But then I went on to read the author's other five ways to be a great parent and I wasn't so sure I wanted to take advice from her. 2) Keep a diary, 3) hang out with your own friends, 4) let your child make her own crazy choices, 5) say no to your kids, and 6) make kids listen to your music and play your games instead of always indulging their taste. So, let's see, to be a great parent, I should invite my buddies over, I should confuse my children by alternately indulging and denying them, and I should just tell them to suck it up and play things I like, such as Nine Inch Nails and Grand Theft Auto IV. And I should track all this in my diary. Well, at least the list got off to a good start.

Thanks to the inimitable and very pregnant Angie Gallant for spotting this.
