Nintendo asks, "Fatal Frame who?"

fatal-frame-4.jpgWhile you're waiting on Siren: Blood Curse to download (I'm just shy of the half-way point for the roughly 10 gigabyte download), here's the latest on Fatal Frame IV, a.k.a. the sequel to Fatal Frame III, a.k.a. the best horror game in the whole wide world:

Although the game comes out in Japan on July 31, it was a no-show at E3 and there's no word about when the rest of the world will see it. Kyoko Yamashita, the PR rep for Fatal Frame developer Tecmo, had the following to say in an E3 follow-up email today:
Several of you asked about Tecmo’s other titles that have been announced in Japan which were not on display at the show. Fatal Frame 4 (Wii) will be published by Nintendo, so please contact your Nintendo PR contact for further information.
But according to GoNintendo's E3 visit, Nintendo of America's marketing VP hadn't even heard of the game. This doesn't bode well for this side of the Pacific getting it any time soon. Apparently, something wicked this way doesn't come.

If you're wondering why you should care about Fatal Frame IV, then you probably didn't play Fatal Frame III. But for me, one of the biggest selling points is that the sequel was co-developed by Goichi Suda, the creator of Killer 7. Therefore, I'm starting Japanese lessons today. Anyone know a good Japanese games importer?

Tom, you've got a couple of options if you're serious about importing the game, but I hope you have access to a Japanese Wii. From what I hear, the Wii Freeloader isn't reliable anymore thanks to Nintendo's updates.

1. You could go to a local importer and ask them to get it for you.

2. You could try http://us.yesasia.com (they have it for 59.99 with free shipping).

3. You could also try www.play-asia.com (they've got it for 64.90 + 3.40 for shipping).

I use both Play-Asia and YesAsia regularly, and I can vouch for their reliability. I went with YesAsia this time because of their free shipping, but if you're in a hurry to have the game, you could pay for priority at either store.

If you were only joking, then I hope this can be of some use to fellow Fatal Frame fans.

That's some good info, Soldats, but I'm afraid the more substantial barrier is my lack of Japanese. It's kind of frustrating that those people speak a whole other language. Why can't they make Fatal Frame IV in, say, England or non-Quebec Canada? Jerks.
