Curious how your favorite band is doing when it comes to downloadable songs for Rock Band? The guys at DLC Stats have come up with one of those 'that's so ingenious/obvious...why didn't I think of it?' ideas. They simply look at the leaderboards for a song, check the poor sap who performed worse than everyone else, and note his rank. And, that, ladies and gentlemen, is pretty much how many people have downloaded the song.

But not so fast. In order to determine the relative popularity of different songs or bands, you have to take into account how long the song has been available. Metallica is going to trounce The Cars because it's had more time online. Here's where Rock Bander skedastic comes in, and he brings with him some serious algebra, or calculus, or abacus skillz.

Here he's calculated the relative popularity of all the Rock Band bands by dividing how long they've been out by the numbers taken from DLC Stats. Or is it multiplying? Actually, maybe you just add the two numbers together? Either way, I should warn you there's a lot of math at the other end of that link. But you can ignore it and just check the list for where your favorite band sits.
