Bruce Willis to star in action movie that might not be good

kane_and_lynch.jpgVariety reports that Bruce Willis is in talks to play Kane in the movie adaptation of Kane & Lynch, an infamous Gamespot review. I think it's also a game or something. Here's the elevator pitch from the Variety article:

[Kane is] a mercenary who makes an unlikely alliance with schizophrenic killer James Lynch. The pair are forced on a mission to retrieve a stolen microchip.
Let's see, buddy movie: check. McGuffin: check. Violent: check. Edgy: check. Okay, good to go!

The Kane & Lynch adaptation will be produced by two guys familiar with gaming properties, having put together movies from the Hitman and Spy-Hunter licenses. The screenplay is from a first-time screenwriter and the director is a first-time director whose main credits are as a stunt coordinator turned second unit director. In other words, right now, Kane & Lynch looks like a throwaway Bruce Willis vehicle.

The Variety report is the first official word since the Times Online speculation last November that Willis and Billy Bob Thornton would play the leads. That rumor from the UK didn't have any legs, and seemed to be the product of an active imagination on the drive back from returning a copy of Bandits to Blockbuster. But it took hold and was passed around the gaming press, who was pretty excited that Eidos had managed to sell the film rights before the game was even released.

Since the rumor worked so well, I'm going to start my own unsubstantiated rumor right now. Ready? Here it goes: Chris O'Donnell will play the lead character in a film adaptation of Haze! Remember, it doesn't matter if it's true. What matters is that you read it on The Internet.

Riiight. Because Gertsmanngate didn't kill Kane & Lynch enough.

Didn't anyone bother to look at the take-ins for the Hitman movie? That was a game people actually PLAYED, and it still didn't do that well. What makes them think anyone will go see a K&L movie?
