I knew the spectate feature for online games would finally come in handy! Two scientists – one from a Danish university, the other from a Romanian university – donned lab coats, took up clipboards, and then blew their grant money watching 1,347 games of Unreal Tournament 2004. They took notes on which team won. Their findings?
Red won 55% of the games.
You can read the details in the August issue of CyberPsychology & Behavior, a bimonthly journal which features articles such as why Turkish kids are such cyberbullies, whether Chinese or US players behave more morally in MMOs, and a ten-page spread on Guitar "I think it's called Rock Band" Hero 4. Oh, wait, that last one is Game Informer.
According to the Associated Press, the article supposes that red has an advantage because "the color red may act as a psychological distractor for men, possibly because men flush and turn red when they're angry". I don't work for a fancy European university, but my theory is that red is edgier, so more people pick the red team than the blue team. As proof, I will conduct my own study with your cooperation. Ready? Load up Grand Theft Auto IV (you have been playing Grand Theft Auto IV, right?) and go to "Stats", then "Vehicles", then "Favorite car color". Okay, so maybe it's not "red". But I'll bet you dollars to donuts it's not "blue".
Hello, CyberPsycology & Behavior? Do you pay by the word?

Hey, that's my favorite color, too! I don't recall singling out black cars, but I figured it either said something about my disposition or there are just a bunch of black cars in Liberty City.
